Status on Our Current Building

I thank everyone for taking the time to read through this update, and affirm it offers the information you seek in better understanding what is happening with the sale of our building and property. If there is information about the move you’d want to see more of, please let me know via email, at randy@unityofmelbourne.com.

On Tuesday, May 30th, your Board Treasurer, Janeen signed the closing settlement documents to sell our building. The buyer did not sign the documents as scheduled and our attorney is engaged.

While this might be considered a set-back, this is not a failure, nor a waste of time.

Everything that we have been doing to prepare for the sale and move must continue to proceed at the same speed and tenacity as before. Why? Timing. Allow me to explain.

With the original contract, we agreed to continue to have access to our existing building for 90 days – that would have been through August 30th. We still hold the thought we will resolve this matter and close on the sale as soon as possible. We must be ready to quickly move out of the building immediately after closing on the sale move to our new space.

The bottom line is, our timeline remains the same AND with a renewed focus on ensuring we don’t waste time or energy.

Our New Location

There was an intent to sign a 5-year lease for our new location. Due to the issues mentioned above, we cannot have a mortgage (for our current building) and a lease. We do have a Letter of Intent on the new space, which should preclude the location from being rented to another party.

As mentioned above, the plan is to “caravan” to the new property once we have a lease in place and have some version of Hospitality. By hosting hospitality in our new space, it will give members and congregants an opportunity to tour the new space.

Work continues with vendors and contractors to coordinate the changes we need to make this space “our own”, and efforts to determine what furnishing we will be able to take (and fit into the smaller space) and dispose of the remainder.

How You Can Help

I will work in the next week to identify remaining tasks that need to be accomplished in the next 45 days in next week’s eNews.

I am grateful and I know the Board shares my appreciation for your patience and prayer during this process.
