Status on Our Current Building

I thank everyone for taking the time to read through this update, and affirm it offers the information you seek in better understanding what is happening with the sale of our building and property. If there is information about the move you’d want to see more of, please let me know via email, at randy@unityofmelbourne.com.

This week has shown a flurry of activity.

The Due Diligence period expired this past weekend which afforded the buyer to inspect the building and property and the opportunity to cancel the sales contract without penalty.

We’re blessed to report the purchase contract remains and we are scheduled to close on Tuesday, May 30th – a mere 6 more days!

If you’ve ever closed on a house, you might remember the amount of paperwork needed to affect such a transaction, and we are truly blessed to have Team LBR, Donna Garson and Principal Brian Lightle as our Broker, and Stacy Horan and Dale Dettmer, Esq. as our attorney ensuring the interests of Unity of Melbourne are represented and protected.

Judy continues to review paper holdings and Cathy is wearing out the cutting blades of the shredder.

One of the schools that rent space from Unity of Melbourne, Sancta Familia, will be closing their school at the end of this week. They are graduating 3 Seniors tomorrow (Thursday) and their last class day for the remainder of the students is this Friday. Teachers will have a couple of weeks to clear out of their classrooms. We appreciate Sancta Familia for their long-term presence at Unity of Melbourne – even during COVID. Their presence and growth were instrumental in our ability to continue to maintain our building.

Janeen Chiscon will be signing the closing documents on behalf of the Board on Tuesday. It’s a significant milestone in the history of Unity of Melbourne, and I promise to take a few pictures.

Our New Location

Immediately after the closing of the sale of our 2401 N Harbor City Blvd property, we will be signing a 5-year lease agreement for our new location. We will not have access to the new space until July 1st.

As Rev Vernelle mentioned during last Sunday’s lesson, the intent will be to “caravan” to the new property on July 2nd so members and congregants can tour the new space. We are working on the final details on either a picnic, birthday/anniversary cake, or something in between (as it is the 1st Sunday of the month and Birthday/Anniversary Sunday!).

I continue to work with vendors and contractors to coordinate the changes we need to make this space “our own”.

During the month of June, we will be spending more time identifying and designating what we will be relocating to the new space, so that when July arrives, we’ll have already made the majority of decisions and the transition should be easier.

How You Can Help

I thank those who provided an “I’m Willing” card that Rev Vernelle mentioned last Sunday, and I will be in touch very soon about areas that I need some immediate assistance.

I continue to seek out those who feel comfortable on a computer to work on some tasks relevant to the move and appreciate all volunteers.

I am grateful and I know the Board shares my appreciation for your patience and prayer during this process.
