Our Teachers

Unity Church of Melbourne has a loving and well-trained youth staff. We call upon the highest and the best within ourselves to love all children, to recognize and seize the opportunity to be a positive example for our youth.

In order to provide our children with a safe and spiritually rich experience, our teachers meet the following requirements:
* Complete application
* Background check
* Training locally and regionally

We provide two teachers in each classroom. Teachers’ schedules rotate every other week to provide the children with familiarity.

Curricula
We use curricula designed to allow our children to explore their spirituality.  A sample of current curricula include:
What a Wonderful World – for children ages 3 to 5
Celebrating My God Self – for children ages 6 – 10
Uniteen Life Lessons – for children ages 11-13
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul as well as many real-life resources such as news, music, videos, and other books – for Y.O.U., ages 14 – 18.

Here’s a video a few of our teens did to show what they learned about how to apply the techniques of Be Peace / the Connection Practice, which they learned in Sunday school…

Retreats and Group Activities

Both our Uniteens and YOUers can attend retreats. Regular Sunday attendance and participation in service projects are requirements for eligibility for retreats. Uniteens and YOUers have two weekend retreats per year. YOUers also have a week-long summer retreat.

Call out the Children…

By Myrtle Fillmore, co-founder of Unity

Our mission is not to entertain the children, but to call them out. To be always entertained is to be dwarfed and dependent. To be “called out” is to follow the harmonious law of the soul’s unfoldment. Who meddles with the rosebud? What fingers are deft enough to pry open that marvel of folded beauty? We are wise enough to leave it alone to follow the glad law of its own unfolding, but our children! Have we dealt as wisely with these buds of marvelous possibilities? Have we always remembered that they, too, must quicken and unfold through the innate law of their own genius?
